
More Than Just a Warm Bathroom
Most people think of those infrared ceiling lamps as a way to keep from shivering when you step out of the shower. I see them differently. For me, it’s all about fighting the damp. When we put a 1500W infrared heater in a steamy room, we aren’t just trying to warm up the air. We’re actually fighting a war against mold.
How it actually works
Here is the thing about standard heaters: they just warm the air around you. Infrared is different. It goes straight for the surface. We use short-wave infrared because it can actually soak into wet tiles and walls. It cranks up the temperature of the wall itself. As long as that surface stays warm—above what we call the “dew point”—water can’t settle there. And if there’s no condensation, mold doesn’t have a place to grow. Simple as that.
Clearing out the steam
A 1500W output gives you enough punch to flash-dry the moisture off your walls. Think of it as a helper for your dehumidifier. By heating up the air right against the ceiling and walls, the standing water evaporates way faster. Your bathroom just dries out quicker. It feels crisper. Less like a sauna, more like a room.
The “Gotchas”
Now, you can’t just slap one of these into any old ceiling. 1500W is a lot of power in a small space. You’ve got to make sure your wiring can handle the load, or you’re asking for trouble with your housing. Placement is also a big deal. If you hang it too low, you’ll practically cook whoever is standing under it. Too high? You lose that heat penetration, and the mold spores on the lower walls will just keep hanging on. And a quick pro tip: these are built for steam, but they aren’t invincible. The quartz glass is tough, but it’ll crack if you hit it with a blast of cold water while it’s glowing red hot. Just keep the shower spray away from the bulb.
