
Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right
If you want to stop throwing money away on your electric bill, you have to get the wattage right for your room. It sounds simple, but bathrooms are tricky. You’ve got steam everywhere and ceilings that vary from “standard” to “cavernous.” That’s why we stick with IP55-rated lamps. Basically, it means the electrical guts are sealed tight against dust and moisture. Without that protection, the insides will just corrode and die within a year. Not a great investment.
Picking the Right Power
There’s no “one size fits all” here. If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a 400W to 600W lamp is plenty. Go any higher and you’ll turn the room into a sauna—or worse, trip your breakers. For those mid-sized bathrooms (5-10m²), we usually go with 800W to 1200W. Then you have the big master baths (12m²+). For these, you’ll either need a high-output array or a few 1500W units spread out. The trick is spacing them so you don’t end up with “cold spots” where you’re shivering in one corner and roasting in the other. Plus, if you overdo the wattage, you’re just heating the ceiling, not yourself.
How It Actually Works
Infrared is different. It doesn’t try to warm up the air; it warms you directly. That’s a huge win in a damp bathroom where old-school heaters usually struggle. And because we use quartz glass tubes, the heat is instant. You flip the switch, and you feel it immediately. Just a heads-up: high-wattage lamps pack a punch. If you mount a 1500W unit too low, you’re risking a nasty burn or melting your plastic fixtures. Give it some breathing room.
Pro Tips for Setup
Want to save even more cash? Hook your heater up to a timer or a motion sensor. Leaving a 1200W lamp running for an hour in a small room is just burning money. Also, keep your mounting height at least 2.2 meters. It gives the heat a chance to spread out so it covers the whole floor, keeping your toes warm while you get ready.
